Learning Scientist

About Me

My work as a learning scientist comes from a simple place. I love helping people grow. I have learned how to take research, theory, and practice and turn them into learning experiences that actually make sense and feel useful. To me teaching is about creating opportunities for people to find things out on their own, and learning is about becoming. It is the process of being transformed into someone new. That is why I am drawn to approaches that keep people at the center because real change only happens when learners feel seen, supported, and challenged.

I have spent more than a decade in healthcare, project management, and adult learning, and those experiences shaped how I design today. In healthcare I learned the value of precision and collaboration. In project management I figured out how to align learning with outcomes and keep things moving. In adult learning I saw the importance of creating safe spaces where people feel free to test, reflect, and grow. My programs do not just deliver information. They help learners challenge their assumptions and walk away different than they came.

What makes me different is how I bring creativity and practicality together. I enjoy adding innovative touches, but I also keep my work grounded so it is easy to use in real life. I believe learning should be engaging but also clear enough that it sticks. And the results prove it. The programs I have designed have helped leaders grow in confidence, improved communication across teams, and given employees tools they actually use long after the training is over.

Learning Science gave me the language and tools to go even deeper. I studied how people actually learn, explored models like ADDIE and SAM, and applied ideas like Universal Design for Learning and transformative learning. That shift from being only experience driven to being science informed gave me confidence to design learning that feels fresh, inclusive, and effective.

At the end of the day my goal is simple. I want to create learning that transforms. This portfolio is a reflection of that journey.  The direction I am heading is towards work that is innovative, purposeful, and always centered on helping people grow.

Deeply Human

My designs start with people. I believe organizations and teams are made up of individuals, so they are always at the heart of everything I create. I take time to understand who I am designing for, what matters to them, and what they need to feel supported. That mindset is grounded in social constructivist theory, which reminds us that knowledge is built in community, through dialogue and shared experience.  When people feel seen and understood, the learning becomes more meaningful, and that is always my goal.

One program that captures this approach is Communication Across Generations. I created it after noticing a pattern in the workplace. People were not missing each other because they did not care. They were shaped by different times, different tools, and very different ways of expressing themselves. This program is about closing those gaps. It is built on the belief that people can connect more deeply once they understand each other’s context. That belief aligns with situated learning theory, which teaches us that learning is most powerful when rooted in real environments and authentic tasks

Over the course of three weeks, participants move through practical activities that mirror what they actually do at work. We begin by exploring generational communication styles. Then we bring in structured tools like SBAR to help make professional messages more clear and consistent. By the third week, participants are critiquing their own communication through audits, peer coaching, and one-on-one mentoring. These experiences are influenced by cognitive apprenticeship, where people learn best through modeling, guided practice, and reflection within a meaningful context.

Along the way, they collaborate, solve design challenges, and make small personal changes that compound into real growth.

Creativity With Purpose

I have a way of looking at an idea and instantly picturing how to bring it to life. I love creating learning that feels real, relatable, and easy to connect with. Whether I’m using visuals, storytelling, or different tools, my goal is always to make the experience engaging and memorable. For me, creativity is not just about making something pretty. It is about making learning feel alive, something people can see, feel, and apply. When learners connect to the content emotionally and cognitively, they are more likely to use what they have learned beyond the moment. That is supported by 4E Cognition Theory, which reminds us that learning is not only mental. It is embodied, embedded, and extended into the tools, environments, and emotions that surround us.

Cognitive Load Theory and The 4C/ID Model, shows how I take complex ideas and break them down so they actually make sense. It is not just theory for theory’s sake. I wanted to make it clear, visual, and approachable, so learners walk away with tools they can really apply immediately in their own work.

Fail, Fix, Repeat, is one of my favorites because it captures the spirit of growth with a little dry humor mixed in it. The idea of it is trial and error, learning from mistakes, and using failure as fuel for improvement. I brought this to life with storytelling and visuals that feel relatable because I believe the best learning moments often come from the places where we stumble and then find a way forward.

Both of these videos are examples of how I bring creativity and practicality together. They are not just lessons. They are experiences that invite learners to think differently and see what is possible.

Don't take my word for it. See what others are saying about me.

Empowerment With Joy

The Atrium of Ideas

The Accountability session started by breaking down what accountability really means. We talked about how it is not just about saying you are sorry or taking the blame. It is about making real changes that show growth and ownership. I drew a clear distinction between responsibility and accountability. Responsibility is about completing the task. Accountability is about owning the outcome. This session reflected principles from transformative learning theory, which emphasizes self-reflection, examining assumptions, and embracing shifts in perspective.

We explored how this shows up in relationships, when we stop projecting our emotions onto others; in our careers, when we stop waiting for validation and take charge of our development; and within ourselves, when we begin to recognize that emotional responses are not automatic they are choices we can understand and shift.

The Mirror Effect session invited learners to see people, situations, and events as reflections of what is happening internally. We explored how actions become visible proof of our inner alignment, how our thoughts quietly guide our direction, and how identity statements help us stay rooted in purpose. This session mirrors the principles of 4E Cognition Theory and the Dynamic Systems Model of Role Identity, where thinking is shaped by environment, relationships, and emotion, and identity is seen as something fluid that evolves through lived experience.

It was a space for honest self-examination and intentional alignment with who we are becoming as leaders.

Story Time was about the stories we tell ourselves and the stories we offer to the world, and how those narratives shape how we see everything around us. We unpacked the power of inner and outer storytelling, and how choosing new language internally and externally can shift not just our mindset but our experience. This connects deeply to constructionist learning theory, which emphasizes that learning is reinforced when people create meaning in a way that reflects their personal truths

Changing the story is a form of redesigning the lens we use to interpret the world.

Across all of these sessions, I encourage participants to hold on to the simple truths we uncover together. Every action leaves evidence of the leader you are becoming. And the good news is, what you reflect can always change. Not by controlling outside circumstances, events, or people, but by choosing to grow, right where you are.
